The calligraphy of Master Zhou Yongzhi is like a massive boulder plummeting from the sky, crashing thunderously to the ground; yet it also resembles a startled swan taking sudden flight, vanishing without a trace. As people remark, “Up close, it is a piece of calligraphy; viewed from afar, it unfolds as a painting.”

His brushwork surges freely and unrestrainedly, bold and unrestrained to the point of sheer exhilaration. He learns from ancient masters yet refuses to be confined by old conventions, daring to break free from the shackles of his predecessors, imbuing every work with a powerful, distinct artistic identity of his own.

When he presses his brush down with heavy force, the strokes evoke a giant rock falling from the heavens, crashing with deafening momentum. In his horizontal handscrolls, a single character sometimes dominates an entire line, standing firm like a lone warrior guarding a pass, with an overwhelming, unstoppable aura. When his brush glides lightly, by contrast, it mirrors a startled swan darting aloft, leaving no discernible trail—achieving the subtle artistic effect of broken brushstrokes yet unbroken artistic conception. This striking contrast has forged his unique signature artistic style.
